Recent Missouri Tractor Trailer Accident Fatalities - April 28, 2010
We have talked many times on this blog about the added attention and safety concerns necessary when sharing the road with tractor trailers, semis, and other large over the road trucks.
A bicyclist was killed early Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010, at the north end of Kirksville, Missouri when he was struck by a semi-truck just after 2:00 a.m. The truck driver, Richard White, from Springfield, Mo. was heading north on highway 63 when he struck the cyclist. The man riding the bicycle was identified as Danny Glaspie from Kirksville. He was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
This follows another fatal crash involving a tractor trailer just two weeks before in the Kirksville area. In that case a van driven by Lurla Meinhardt of Memphis pulled from Highway 11 into the path of the semi heading south on Highway 63, south of Kirksville.
Both the driver and her passenger husband were killed in that accident. The tractor trailer driver, Richard Ferguson from Kirksville, was not injured.
Last Monday a truck driver from Old Appleton, Missouri was killed while traveling on the U.S. 58 Bypass in Virginia. Michael Allen Roth was driving a Western Star tractor with a flatbed trailer when he crossed the median, headed into the oncoming lanes and struck a guard rail.
As previously discussed in this blog, the dangers inherent in the vehicle weights of over the road trucks traveling at highway speeds, creates a serious risks of serious bodily injury and death to anyone involved in a truck accident. Please use extra caution when sharing the road with these vehicles.
